From WordPress, to static site, to Framer

After years of self hosting my domain with WordPress and static sites, I'm now hosting my site on Framer! Switching was fairly quick to do, although it's been a long time coming and taken me a long time to get off the ground because I've always found it quite difficult to summarise my work and goals succinctly whenever I try to reorganise and refresh my website.

And to be honest there were also a few trade offs to self hosting, some of which included abandoning some dusty and probably barely visited and used subdomains and emails… but I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons because I love to design and iterate visually and that is what Framer does well.

This feels like the start of a new chapter with some familiar throwbacks to old drawings and elements from previous layouts, and I hope Framer has the longevity for me to continue using it for a while. I first began dabbling in art, design, and code using Geocities, which was a visual page builder. Framer seems like an adult version of that. It's grown a lot as a product since I tested it years ago, and it is really nice to use now.

I love how easy it is to test and iterate interactions and animations, and that is probably one of Framer's strongest selling points. I have to admit, the AI Workshop has also been amazing and helped me out immensely to test and iterate ideas that I am not sure I would have even tried myself.

I love how easy and intuitive it is to use, without being overly cumbersome and detailed. I have used Webflow to manage a website in the past, and looking back, it was a nightmare compared to how easy to use Framer is.

What do you think? Feel free to leave a comment! Because I thought Framer wouldn't support it but turns out there is actually a component for that…just don't ask me how it works because I have no idea. 😂

Oh well, let's see how it goes.
